Genre: Paranormal Romance
The Analysis:
My growing frustration with poor romance novels caused me to seek this one out. But I know what you’re thinking. Didn’t you say this was a paranormal romance. I did, but when I started this it was months after I had gotten it. And going off the cover alone I thought it might be a horror. A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb, lets book review it.

Since the book is from a ghosts pov, most of the book is exposition. But not in away that makes reading it a hindrance. I was excited for this one.
Some cute things and some not so cute things. In this story ghosts also sleep. Unnecessary feature, but okay.
Cutely, I found myself wanting to read books in the park more. If only to help out bored ghosts lol. Very cute.
Lets talk not so cute. I’m not feeling the ghost romance. Im not particularly attached to either character. So im not in love with there love.
At one point there spouting poetically at each other along the lines of, i’m compelled to love you. And i found myself saying,
I’m compelled to see where this goes despite disliking you both.
And i think that sums up the whole book. It was a page turner. The supernatural elements were captivating. How do they take over peoples bodies? How long can they last in these bodies? How will there pasts complicate things? All questions propelling me forward.
But I found the whole romance contrived. You could go anywhere, do anything. A new leash on life. And you’re two ghosts in strangers bodies and all you want to do is be with another ghost. Like, what? Did I mention it was instalove.
So much history passed them by. I just want to be with ghost James. Cities have burned and been reborn. I just want to be with ghost Helen. New fashions, new entertainment. I just want to be with ghost James again. It was annoying.
Add to it Helens ageist comments about how Monopoly offers no real connection for families. Eye roll. Monopoly and Uno are two games known to start wars in some families houses, Lol. There more than fun enough.
But I wont continue on. The book did its job, I was ready to go back to reading a regular romance.
I’m torn on my recommendation for this one. Ghost stories can truly never be boring which is why I read so much of this one. However, outside of the supernatural elements there wasn’t much to like.
