Genre: Contemporary Romance
Disclaimer: Reading is all about discovery, but this Book Review does not shy away from spoiling specific scenes as this is more of a look inside the good and bad of a book.
The Analysis:
Back when I only had 30 books on my TBR list and not 100+, I wrote down which books I would read and in what order. And thats as far as that list went as the idea died and my list grew and grew. But I never got rid of the list and in bad need of a book. I picked it up and this was number 2. Let’s Book Review it.
Here’s the Blurb:
But this secret could destroy us all.
He’s the same rebel that had me begging for his touch.
But now he has money and power.
What he doesn’t have is the truth – the life changing secret I’ve been keeping for years.
Now he’s back and determined to make me his.
He used to be my brother’s best friend.
Today, I’m caught in the middle of their heated war.
It’s hard being the sheriff’s little sister in a tiny town where everyone talks.
Will the secrets of our past destroy us?
I suppose there’s one way to find out.
I love this cover. If a designer was selling this as a premade, I would have totally grabbed it. The guy is sexy. The background hints at his economic status as being successful. The title is pretty obvious as to the trope. Love it all.

So, I read a ton of reviews first. Which I shouldn’t do. It can sometimes color what you think of a story going into it. However, I didn’t wholly agree with the sentiment presented in most of them.
Despite the heroine’s bad judgment in keeping the secret from the hero, I still enjoyed the story. In this novel, you will definitely find yourself picking sides. I came down on the side of the hero. He was clearly the bad boy trying to make good. He had a sweet heart and it was for only one woman.
Thus the heroines reasons for keeping the secret of the baby where thin and wholly selfish.
So, why was I able to keep reading? The reveal doesn’t happen until the last third of the book. I wanted to know what the hero was feeling and what his plans were. The story up until that point wasn’t as aggravating as one would think. It really did feel like a peek into someone’s life.
I’m reading about this careless, spoiled woman that keeps sleeping with her ex, not once, but thrice. Her only excuse amounting up to, I just fell on the dick. But she can do that and still not be honest about her baby’s paternity because of reasons.
Her tone gets a little condescending, as well, once the truth comes out. She should be groveling, but instead, she doubles down on her victimhood. Just brace yourself.
Other characters: The aging father, who’s gotten a little wiser and regrets some of his decisions. The overbearing cop brother, playing the hero in his imagination. This guy is a testament to the fragile male ego.
The heroine got her HEA, but does she deserve it, nope. But the hero does and if he wants it with her then I’m happy.

Side note: I DNF @68% Breezy by Kellie Rae, it started off strong, but I found myself unattached to the characters and I blame this mostly on the hero.
