Genre: Urban Fantasy
The Analysis:
Bought this book during a kindle unlimited free trial. I don’t remember how I found it. Definitely, don’t read enough to be able to enjoy KU though. Court of Shadows by C.N. Crawford,
Heres the Blurb:
A girls’ night out means three things to me: drinking whiskey with my best friend, trying not to kill anyone, and keeping my magic hidden. A fae gladiator like me isnβt supposed to exist anymore.
But my Friday night takes a bad turn when a lethally gorgeous fae–Ruadan–tries to assassinate me. He’s known as the Wraith, and he’s taken a vow of silence until heβs slaughtered the outlaws on his kill list. Outlaws like me.
Ruadan lets me live on one condition: I have to earn my place at the Institute of the Shadow Fae. As a powerful fighter, I can take the competition.
But things fall apart when Iβm given an impossible choice: betray my mentor Ruadan, or my best friend dies. Now, I face a quandary my gladiatorial past did not prepare me for.
The cover fits the genre. But after reading the story, the swords don’t totally fit. However, the couple on the picture totally encompass Arianna and Ruadain

This book is action packed and it may be the best thing about it. It hits the ground running and you’re instantly enraptured.
The main character, Arianna, receives a life or death invitation to join the best of the best. But you’ve got to test
And your heart goes out to her when she eventually has to make the important decision to turn on her mentor who she’s gotten close to. Or risk losing her best friend who is in mortal danger. Arguably because of her. So this was definitely entertaining.
Cons, it was only from Arianna’s pov. Although, this didn’t take away from us getting to know Ruadain. I still wished that I knew how he felt about her. Especially since this was a slow burn.

*P.S. I’m not reading the rest of the series. As in author in love with all things romance. The slow burn is going to kill me. Especially since this is a long running serious. I don’t want to be waiting for them to get together. But this may not be a problem for others. And this decision gave me pause too because a part of me wanted to keep reading about her fights. But the romance won out, it will frustrate me.
