Genre: Paranormal Romance
The Analysis:
I bought House of Guardians in January of last year. I finally got around to reading it. And because it took so long, I went into it without any prior knowledge of what it was supposed to be about. H.O.G. by Beatrice Sand, lets review it.
Heres the Blurb:
HOUSE OF GUARDIANS
When 17-year-old Laurel Harper decides to go live with her estranged father and stepfamily, she’s unaware of the fact that her fate was already sealed the day she was born. She is now exactly where some higher power wants her to be. But it’s not until she meets the proud and mysterious Sam Laurens that she feels something strange is going on. Why does he keep interfering in her life? Then Laurel finds out about Sam’s ominous ancestry and a whole different fear arises. Fear of who Sam really is. Fear of her own feelings. And when she learns the dark truth about her own future, a sinister secret that will change everything as soon as she turns nineteen, she wants to run and hide, but soon realizes that there is no hiding from fate. Sam may be the only one who can help her escape her destiny, but then she has to start trusting him again, and time is of the essence because he has his own fate to deal with. Still, Sam is determined to stop Laurel from meeting her doom, even if that means he has to make a drastic move that will separate them for good.
I like the cover, but I don’t love it. By author standards, the shirtless pic betrays a level of steam that’s missing in this book. The backdrop isn’t enough to indicate just what this book is about either. That being said, it is a beautiful cover on its own. Just not for this story. Comment below what you think?

It’s boring.
From the first chapter, Laurel is waxing poetic about the place where she lives. Its so overboard that I think I’m reading about a story that takes place on some fantasy island. Only to find out in the next chapter that it’s Vancouver Island. And completely normal, she just thinks its weird because she’s new. Not the first time
The supernatural elements are so subtle that if you blink you missed it. I can’t say that I even knew what Sam was until closer to chapter 7. Vampire, Werewolf, or
Her poor treatment of her new friends also reminded me of Twilight. It was one of the many valid complaints about the book. So I’m surprised the author went that route. With another character playing it cold and aloof with people, at least on the surface, who appear to be great.
The little drama there was should have started 5 chapters earlier and lasted 5 chapters longer. At the midway point every chapter I was telling myself, quit now. How about now? Still boring, quit now.
I quit around chapter 20.
