Genre: Dark Romance/Horror/Thriller
The Analysis:
So I knew this would be another quick read. You really can’t stop at only one chapter. I found myself on another binge to the end. Love Corrupted by Natalie Bennett, lets book review it.
Heres the Blurb:
Love is a tragedy designed for two. All his pretty lies disguised the ugly truths.
I’m nothing but a puppet. He’s the puppeteer.
His dark twisted game is just getting started.
Reader Advisory18+
This is a disturbing love story that has nothing to do with romance.
FYI: The last chapter of Love Obscene repeats at the beginning of Love Corrupted.
This story is still deliciously good with the push/pull of Mason trying to convert Katie to his sadistic ways. And Katie trying to come to terms with the man that she has fallen in love with and her moral conscience.
Spoiler alert: Katie gets hit by a car at the end of that and the story doesn’t answer what happened as it jumps ahead to her sitting at dinner with Mason’s father. I was a bit surprised that the opportunity to inflict more gore into the story was skipped.
By Chapter 4, I was ready to throw my phone down. I just really needed to know why he took her and what her sister had to do with anything. So kudos to the author for keeping me drawn into the story. Here’s a quote from the novel:
I planted the seed of unfathomable sin.
This one quote got me to thinking about the whole concept. I feel like this could be a test by some sadistic doctor. The title of which would be, The Making Of A Serial Killer. Granted, Katie is an easy subject because of her lack of love and obvious mental problems. This book left me with the question in true Saw fashion. How much does it really take to unearth humanity’s darker needs? Then again I don’t want to find out.
There appears to be another story out called Depravity with Declan at the center. Declan’s personality was mild’s above Mason’s and that’s saying something considering they all were killers. However, after reading these 2 books. I just could not take another dive down the rabbit hole to hell. So I looked it up out of curiosity with no intentions to actually read it. And it looks like its no longer available. At least at the time of writing this which will be a few months before it posts.
Story At A Glance:
Overall Story:
This novel did tie things up, but not in any linear fashion. It really was like piecing a puzzle together. After reading the prologue in Book 1 it left me a little confused as I read the epilogue in Book 2. But I eventually figured it out.
Pacing:
I thought up until that bit of confusion that the story was paced nicely and not to slow. A rather fast read actually.
Characterization:
Mason was the perfect embody of a sociopath, and it was hard not to believe that Katie was sane.
World/Building Setting:
There wasn’t a lot of setting in book 1 or 2, but when it came to the gore and sex no expense was spared on the description.
Language:
Simple and understandable. Formatting is awkward.
Feeling:
Finally, it’s over type of thing.
Recommendation: I’ll leave this up to the reader. If you got through Book 1 enough to want to know more, then go for it. If you couldn’t stomach it then Book 2 isn’t going to be better.

*Author Note: The sex scenes were well written which is why I’m giving them a 5. But they aren’t enjoyable. Certain sections I was cringing through that as well because it really is just a violence fest from beginning to end. Which is why its never explicitly stated, but I added that this also fits the horror genre.
