Genre: Dark Romance/Horror
The Analysis:
Page one had me hooked from the line, I fell for a man with a pitch black soul and a charm so deceptive he could outwit the devil. I just hoped that the love would continue for the entirety of the book. Considering how the last book I read went. Love Obscene by Natalie Bennett, let’s book review it.
Heres the Blurb:
What would you endure for love?
I was nothing. He was both madness and paradise.
I was lost. He was salvation and damnation.
I was innocent. He was sadistic and twisted.
I was an obsession. Now I am his.

Not for the faint of heart.
This is a disturbing love story that has nothing to do with romance.
Formatting is a little awkward. She also switches pov’s late, but it’s not hard to keep up.
Its an amazingly fast read. About an introverted woman named Katie whose kidnapped by a sadistic serial killer in look for a wife/love/partner. And he spends most of the book conditioning her to get ready for this new role. Meanwhile, Katie is falling for him but has qualms about killing people. There’s never a dull moment, as Katie gets kidnapped pretty early. She also talks to herself, but in a way that makes me think she’s schizophrenic. Although its never explicitly stated what’s wrong with her.
Funny thing is, well not so funny, Katie made this statement along the lines of, this is better than dying alone. As some sort of excuse to justify the abuse that he’s doing to her and the other women he keeps in the basement.
We gone have differing opinions on that one.
Some of the graphic images depicted made parts of my body hurt. The disgusted frown of contempt was on my face for most of this novel. And I almost laughed out loud when she finally came to her senses, talking about I thought he was a little crazy and not full crazy.
Then I was giving him the stink eye as he explained that he wasn’t psychotic. Like b**** what?!
Mason infected me like an airborne pathogen.
A direct quote from the book is the best way I can describe Mason’s relationship with Katie. But I’ve got to dumb it down to the normal flu. Why? Because she was already susceptible to his BS being schizophrenic with a case of severe introvertedness. Like having a low immune system. So it wasn’t like this was some rare happenstance. He knew what he was doing by choosing her.
But if their relationship was the flu, then the vaccine was real love. Love from a mother, sister or friend. But though I’d love to say that the moral of the story is to talk more to those who go underappreciated and unnoticed. Which should always be done. I also have learned that being open costs nothing. How many times could she have actually said more than hey to the guy at the diner? How many times could she have asked her coworker out to lunch on there off day? You’re responsible for your own happiness. And you’re only as happy as you allow yourself to be.
Omg at her comments that she couldn’t rebel all the time. I’m thinking to myself, rebel! Did I blink and miss it? When did that happen? Outside of the one time she ran there hasn’t been any type of rebellion I’ve ever heard of.
By the later chapters, I’m thinking there is nothing he can do to make Katie hate him. I’m reading just to find out what has to happen for her to finally say enough is enough. And I absolutely loathed her when spoiler alert: a man tried to rescue her and she thwarted his tries.
At the end of this, all I could think was if I was going through that I could never look at another white rose again in my life. Without having a complete melt down. But it ended on a cliffhanger and I’m most definitely reading the next one.
Story At A Glance:
Overall Story:
Love Obscene is sick and twisted, and definitely not for the faint of heart. I’m cringing and feeling disgusted and still want to read the next one.
Pacing:
Well, its definitely going to be hard to understand just exactly what is going on without reading both books. Only because the story of why she was kidnapped seems to be a much larger story.
Characterization:
I don’t even know what to stay.
World/Building Setting:
As the setting for this novel is mostly the house. I think they’re doing a good job describing his many, many kill rooms. And the wounds he’s inflicted on people just feel real.
Language:
Simple and understandable. Formatting is awkward.
Feeling:
Disgust and shameful intrigue.
Recommendation: Yes, but out of shame I think I would only recommend it to people specifically looking for dark romance. Because you don’t want to tell anyone else this is the type of books you’re reading. lol.

OVERALL READING EXPERIENCE:

*Author Note: The sex scenes were well written which is why I’m giving them a 5. But they aren’t enjoyable. Certain sections I was cringing through that as well because it really is just a violence fest from beginning to end. Which is why its never explicitly stated, but I added that this also fits the horror genre.
