Genre: Contemporary Romance
The Analysis:
I just found something different and in the world of Contemporary Romance that’s like finding a unicorn. Let me tell you exactly what I think about this glittery mystical creature, Painted Faces by L.H. Cosway, let’s book review it.
Heres the Blurb:
Dublin native Freda Wilson considers herself to be an acquired taste. She has a habit of making offensive jokes and speaking her mind too often. She doesn’t have the best track record with first impressions, which is why she gets a surprise when her new neighbor Nicholas takes a shine to her.
Nicholas is darkly handsome, funny and magnetic, and Freda feels like her black and white existence is plunged into a rainbow of colour when she’s around him. When he walks into a room he lights it up, with his quick wit and charisma. He is a travelling cabaret performer, but Freda doesn’t know exactly what that entails until the curtains pull back on his opening night.
She is gob-smacked and entirely intrigued to see him take to the stage in drag. Later on, Nicholas asks her if she would like to become his show assistant. Excited by the idea, she jumps at the chance. Soon she finds herself immersed in a world of wigs, make-up and high heels, surrounded by pretty men and the temptation of falling for her incredibly beautiful employer.
In this story of passion and sexual discovery, Nicholas and Freda will contend with jealousy, emotional highs and lows, and the kind of love that only comes around once in a lifetime.

Lets take off the gloves, this book is about a straight drag queen. And I don’t think I could love the concept any more. There personalities sing off the page. And the book grabbed me from the prologue. It also wasn’t lost on me that our female and male characters had opposite gender names. Loved that small touch of symbolism.
If it doesn’t grab your heart and have your ears perking up at certain parts. I’m not sure what will. I even cast the characters. Fred’s sarcasm and overall snarkiness reminded me of Natasha.
But i got to be honest, the disappointment is coming. Vivica is a manwhore who won’t quit. One particular chapter, I just woke up. Like a lightbulb flashed above my head. How long is he going to be a douche and she chase after him? However, it manifested itself in me not wanting to read it anymore. And I couldn’t figure out why until I went and read some other one star reviews.
I know, I usually don’t read reviews, but I was at a loss. I couldn’t figure out why the book I loved had suddenly turned cold somewhere in the middle.
And then someone said it, Vivica is an ass. Not because he’s a drag queen. But because he’s a jerk and he was the whole time. I just excused him and couldn’t do it any longer.
For one thing in the age of the ME TOO movement some of his actions are real inappropriate. Stop and no are real words. But I excused it as harmless flirting. However, when he’s not showing any signs that his heart is thawing towards Fred. Or that he’s even considering her as a real possibility since he’s still sticking his dick in everything. He’s not the misunderstood bad boy. He’s just bad.
Sleeping with another girl right in front of the heroine is a little much too.
