Genre: Comic Book
The Analysis:
When I read this comic book, I was just coming off one of those really dense books that have you contemplating life etc. I was more than happy, to pick this up and just be entertained. And it more than did its job. Saga Vol 1, By Brian Vaughan and Fiona Staples., lets book review it.
Heres the Blurb:
SAGA is the sweeping tale of one young family fighting to find their place in the worlds. When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe. Fantasy and science fiction are wed like never before in a sexy, subversive drama for adults.
Back to Story:
The story is told from the point of view of the baby. Which I kind of hated because I felt like it was spoiling the story. Outside of who the parents are. You want to know what happens to the kid, and her spoiling it for me kind of sucked. But once I got over that I could really enjoy the story.
I became an instant fan of Marko’s and his views on nonviolence. The couple together were like yin and yang. I was mad when one of the supporting characters died. And I was too ready to read the next one.
This familiar story of star-crossed lovers is one that any comic book lover or beginner will want to add to there TBR list.
Will, one of the potential villains of this story, is a walking paradox. But I even want to know more about him. Spoiler alert: The prostitute six-year old was angering.
Story At A Glance:
Overall Story:
Well written and deserving of a movie of its own. I instantly want to know more about this couple.
Pacing:
It’s a comic book. So naturally, it ends on a cliffhanger.
Characterization:
Best character award goes out to Marko. I also loved the ghost. There wasn’t a weak character in the bunch.
World/Building Setting:
TV robot people. Spider lady with her tits out. I thought they were trying too hard to come up with unique alien creatures. Otherwise I enjoyed the illustrations and the world.
Language:
Simple and understandable.
Feeling:
Interesting. Happy. Addicted.
Recommendation: Yes.
