There’s something magical about music and storytelling coming together. For me—and many other authors—writing to music is a non-negotiable part of the process. My absolute favorite thing? Creating playlists for my books! They’re not just a vibe; they’re a tool that brings every scene, character, and plot twist to life.
When I create a playlist, I limit it to the size of a good old-fashioned album—10 to 15 songs max. Why? Because less is more! Each song is handpicked to capture the exact emotions, themes, and energy of the story. The playlist is born even before the first word hits the page. It inspires me, guides me, and instantly transports me to the world I’m building. Every playlist we make lives on Spotify, waiting for you to give it a listen!
Playlists are more than just background noise—they’re modern-day soundtracks. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a great soundtrack? Shout out to the classics: Prince’s Purple Rain, Whitney Houston’s The Bodyguard, and my all-time favorite, The Dirty Dancing Soundtrack. Those songs take me right back to the scenes they scored. When I build my playlists, I imagine the songs playing in the movie version of my book. It’s cinematic dreaming at its finest!
Here’s the best part: all three TRS authors—Patrina Bowe, Patience Colby, and Paige Lynn Hill—have playlists for their books! Whether it’s paranormal romance, heartfelt Christian love stories, or something in between, these songs offer an extra layer to the reading experience.
So, why follow book playlists? Because they let you experience the story in a whole new way. You’re not just reading—you’re living it, with a soundtrack that puts you right in the middle of the action. Happy listening! 🎧
