A closer look at romantic suspense novel: A Shot of Revenge
A Shot of Revenge went through a couple of different iterations. The cover itself decided the final idea for the novel.
Originally, our heroine Jade was going to be involved in some East Coast/West Coast drama, ala Tupac and Biggie, and the agent was going to be brought in to diffuse the situation after things got too serious (bomb on a bus). I know, good, right? Except, inspiration changed my mind. I was shopping for covers for the story months before I had put a word on the page, per usual.
I came across this cover, and I remember thinking, this is it. This is the drama, the action, and the kind of romance I want to display. It reminded me of an action movie. But when I actually sat down to write it, another voice was like, no, this story no longer fits. This novel needs to have international intrigue and higher stakes.
Enter a pregnant Jade, and a majority of the novel taking place on a foreign continent. When previously, it would have all been set in Las Vegas.
The choice to write the novel, to begin with, was a simple one. I love a good rockstar romance. I wasn’t going to miss the chance to put my stamp on the bodyguard trope with an equally as loved trope of mine, and that’s interracial romance.
