A closer look at paranormal romance: Beauty Is A Veil
To be honest, the Anemoia Valley Universe is based on the Necrosis Bite Series. Everything else came after through one form or another.
Beauty Is A Veil, is the answer to what I thought would be a frequent question. How do Carmilla and Dracula fit into this world? After all, their two of the most mythological vampire creatures to have ever existed. I simply couldn’t ignore their looming shadow.
Part of the reason that I didn’t shy away from using them, is because I wanted to put my own mark on the pair. I certainly didn’t reinvent the wheel, but that’s never been the purpose of this universe. This universe is just everything I love about vampires in one place. It’s not chipped away at to be teen-friendly for instance. Think more True Blood and less Vampire Diaries. Although, to some genre haters it’s all the same.
But this story, in particular, delves into the origin story of these two prolific figures. Carmilla, herself, plays an important role in The After Fury, book 1 of the Necrosis Bites. And Dracula will eventually get his own standalone in The Vampires Cape, but that wont come until much later.
However, in the legend of the mythos, Carmilla is not as well known. She frequently only comes up in topics about Vampires as one of those cool facts. I wanted my universe to reinstate her importance. To let people know, that she is the originator (at least in this universe). I also didn’t change her sexual orientation for people that care about that sort of thing. Although, it doesn’t take up as much page space as others would like.
The Dracula in my story also shares some traits and history with his (assumed) inspiration Vlad the Impaler. This connection is why I chose to set the book in Transylvania. Specifically, the Poenari Citadel, which is a real place.
But what could possibly bring two formidable people together, other than war or money … love. Enter, Laura Sosi Bragrayman, the bridge between two people you would expect to see eye to eye, but are too much alike to agree. And it’s through her eyes that we get an accurate picture of them both.
My personal favorite part is the epilogue. It includes a deleted scene from the After Fury. You will see Carmilla and someone else very close to her.
