A closer look at contemporary romance: Sweet Home Chicago
Sweet Home Chicago is an ode to daytime tv talk shows. You don’t necessarily have to be a fan of those types of shows to know what I’m referring to.
These shows come with the staple, pretty, intelligent, yet personable cohost and her counterpart, the intelligent, strong, but gentle backbone to her exorbitant energy. And oftentimes fans of these shows end up shipping the cohosts together because they work so well together. This also can’t wholly be blamed on the fans. Oftentimes, these cohosts know of the rumors and fan the flames for views. They will playfully call each other work hubby and work wife while flirting over Valentine’s day candy. Anyone watching will more than say that they are taking the phrase be friendly with your coworker too far.
But what’s played for screen time rarely fully depicts what happens behind the scenes. At the end of the day, they are just coworkers, and they have probably never been to each other’s houses.
Enter Sweet Home Chicago. I decided to depict the specific circumstances in which this pair might actually get together. It was a purging if you will.
The setting as usual is just an ode to my place of birth. Like really, where else would I set it? New York, California, not interested. And just in case it needs to be said, my characters Hale and Naomi are not related to any real-life celebrities. I also had little say over the design but think it is quite beautiful.
